Charles James Mitchell
Charles James Mitchell

Born: 1860? @ Bristol? to James Mitchell and Ann Mitchell (Nee Hodges)

Married: Jan-Mar 1886 @ Portishead to Hannah Davies (Source: FreeBMD)

Children: Frances Amy Mitchell and Mabel Elizabeth Mitchell

Died: ??? (before 1901 as James Mitchell's will doesn't mention him and he didn't appear in the 1901 census)

Buried: ???

Not much is known about Charles other than that on both Mabel Elizabeth's and Frances Amy's birth certificates it says that he was a mariner, and that the children were born in Portishead, Somerset. We're fairly certain that he didn't have any other children, although Hannah re-married twice more, which, combined with the fact that he isn't mentioned in his father's will, suggests he died quite young (possibly at sea?)

SPECULATION:

[My current guess is that he was the stoker in the first census entry below, that his father was James Mitchell of 10 Canynge St, St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol (born 1832 in Combpyne, Devon), that his mother was Mary Ann Mitchell (nee Hodges, born 1831 in Bath, Somerset) and that would give him 3 younger sisters, Mary Jane (b.1865), Kate (b.1870) and Jessie (b.1875) who were all born in Bristol, plus possible older siblings, perhaps also serving at sea.]

1881 Census - possible entries:

(Most likely)

Or:

      	Rel: Wife
Harold MITCHELL 1 M Portishead, Somerset

(Unlikely as we don't know of an earlier marriage, but possible?)
